Yahoo Search is now powering the search results on CNN, CNNSI.com, and CNNMoney. As of today all of these sites are offering search “powered by” Yahoo. Previously the CNN network sites offered search “enhanced” by Google. To date, CNN seems to be the first big network site that has made the search engine switch from Google to Yahoo Search Technology.

Google and Yahoo’s Overture have been duking it out over search advertising contracts recently, especially oversees. In the US, Overture’s biggest contract may be MSN, while Google serves search and AdWords results for AOL – ironically part of the Time Warner Media umbrella that also owns CNN. CNN has had a search advertising deal with Overture since late 2002. Overture currently also serves contextually targeted keyword ads to accompany CNN news stories on CNN.com.
