New Google AdWords Dashboard Looks Like Yahoo Panama

April 20th, 2007 by Loren Baker, Editor | 8 Comments

Dan London of AdwordsEditor.blogspot.com sent me a screen shot of the new Google AdWords Account Snapshot Beta which looks very similar to Yahoo Search Marketing’s Panama admin.

Google AdWords Account Snapshot

Yahoo Search Marketing Dashboard

Similarities include :

  • Personalized advertiser alerts
  • Campaign forecasting in chart, graph form
  • More account transparency
  • Focus on traditional marketing metrics like CPM

Not to say that one company is copying the other, but Yahoo Search Marketing’s new interface is more marketer friendly, which seems to have prompted Google to create a more user friendly campaign “Snapshot” of their own.

    Thanks for the LOVE.

The best part is that they just add features and don’t tell anyone. It makes every morning like Christmas.

When are the constant changes going to stop? I wrote about this about a year ago http://digg.com/tech_news/Google_sends_blogger_aspirin_after_complaining_about_Google_headaches
    and it still bothers me.
Almost everyday I login, another new feature, tool, format…. More aspirin PLEASE!!!!

Al, obviously Yahoo addressed the user experience problems both Google AdWords and YSM’s old Overture model faced and created the better dashboard / campaign overview offering.

As long as the market competition increases, companies will perform more and more changes to better and differentiate themselves.

For example, Overture/Goto.com invented pay per click sponsored search. They were happy with their model and did not modify it much over the past 8 years.

Google copied that sponsored search system and continuously modified and transformed it into the powerhouse it is today.

Positive and efficient change, in this example, bred success.

Since the formula works in the dynamic search and tech industry, expect more and more changes and improvements across the board on an almost daily basis.

Al these UI changes, I wish they create something and stick to it.

I like the AdWords version over the Panama version. Google at least remembers the date settings you last applied, whereas I always have to set the dates I want everytime I login. Plus I just think the AdWords interface dominates all others.
