Google Still #1 Search Engine in US

Nielsen//Netratings released their statistics on search engine market share and usage today which ranked the search engines by usage and growth. Google still dominates the American search engine market with almost half of all US searches taking place via Google.com and its partners. Google also enjoys more than double the amount of searches than Yahoo, its closest competitor.

Search engines ranked by searches, growth percentage, and market share:

* Google Search 3,022,326 23% 49.6%
* Yahoo! Search 1,456,269 30% 23.9%
* MSN/Windows Live Search 538,594 -8% 8.8%
* AOL Search 375,045 1.9% 6.2%
* Ask.com Search 168,076 25% 2.8%

Interestingly enough, if you sort the numbers by search engine usage growth, Yahoo and Ask.com grew more in 2006 than Google, with Yahoo topping off the list with a usage increase of 30%. MSN/Live.com was the only search engine to decrease in usage.

* Yahoo! Search 30%
* Ask.com Search 25%
* Google Search 23%
* AOL Search 1.9%
* MSN/Windows Live Search -8%

    On the other hand, it’s easier to grow by a large percentage when you’re smaller. :)

    Wrong. Google is not #1. Not in my opinion. It has to be one of if not the worst search engines of all. You type in a basic search phrase and it rips the phrase apart till it’s unrecognizable and it picks and chooses which words in that phrase it’ll use to search with. When the searching is done you end up with page after page after page of sites that have absolutely nothing in common with what you were looking for. Now, how can you call a search engine like that #1? I call it #2. And I don’t mean it in the sense that it’s in 2nd place. Prove me wrong Mr Editor. Tell me how it’s rated #1. Prove to me with statistics that it’s a better search engine that all the others. Then I will in turn prove you with with comments of people I’ve talked to who have used Googles search engine with pathetic results.
