Reporters Without Borders & Li Zhi Anti-Yahoo China Video
Was surfing around YouTube today and came across this video of Li Zhi’s brother criticizing Yahoo for providing the Chinese Government with access to Li Zhi’s China hosted Yahoo Mail account information.
China apparently used the info provided by Yahoo as critical evidence which led to the ruling that Li Zhi was breaking the law by distributing confidential info to journalists and pro-Democracy activists in foreign countries.
A Reporters Without Borders team stationed itself with a video player outside Yahoo’s California headquarters on April 7th, 2006 and stopped employees as they left the building, showing them videos filmed in China of people criticizing Yahoo’s cooperation with the Chinese police.
“Li is in prison because of you,” he says. “He already had hepatitis and now he has pleurisy because the poor working conditions in prison (…) Our family is broken (…) I am convinced he is innocent (…) All this happened because of your company (…) and I hope that in future you will heed your conscience before doing this kind of thing.”
