Microsoft Adds Instant Answers to IE8 Live Search Box

Microsoft’s Live Search is taking steps to assure that usage of the company’s IE 8 browser will entice users to stay active with Live Search via new Instant Answers. Microsoft search share has been slipping a bit, and total integration of Microsoft search technology into the Internet Explorer web browsing experience is the way for them to get back some of that share and keep it (notice that in the example below that the tabbed alternative search engines list Facebook, a Microsoft partner before Google).

Similar to Yahoo Shortcuts or the Google OneBox, Live Instant Answers will serve results in a toolbar drop down when users search for specific queries associated with financial information, weather conditions, movie show times, calculations, equations, conversions, and definitions directly in the IE8 search box.

The Live Search Blog suggests these queries :

* 2+2 (calculations)
* x*5=7 (equations)
* 71 degrees F in C (conversions)
* define alert (definitions )
* bella bottega (show time info for a theater )
* The Uninvited (show time info for a movie)

Give it a try!

    Any good articles on the linking value of social websites? Any chance Google will ignore those sites from rankings?
