Firefox Browser Increasing Popularity at Expense of Microsoft IE
The Firefox Web browser is continuing to gain in popularity at the expense of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer with a jump to a 6.17% share of the browser market. According to a recent NetApplications study, in February, Firefox users continued to flock to the browser with market share rising to 6.17% from 5.59% in January.
Firefox’s gain is Microsoft’s loss, which finished with 89.04% market share – down from 90.31% in December 2004. Most other browsers maintained a steady and loyal user base. “Firefox is currently the only browser that is increasing market share on a monthly basis and it is growing at the direct expense of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer,” observed Dan Shapero, Chief Operating Officer at NetApplications. “Firefox appears to be the only challenger to Microsoft’s market domination.”
Microsoft Internet Explorer – 89.04%
Firefox – 6.17%
Netscape – 1.89%
Safari – 1.69%
Mozilla – .66%
Opera – .48%
Other – .07%
