Danger Ahead Rupert Murdoch

News Corp.’s purchase of social networking and music promotion site MySpace could only have been motivated by a desire to acquire social networking/community tools and the teen/young adult demographic that frequents the site.

This AP article suggests that Murdoch may have trouble effectively using MySpace as a promotional vehicle for his various properties. There are books, magazines, cable TV networks and movie studios, but no music holdings to speak of—which is where the synergy would be.

The inability to use it as a promotional vehicle to reach its demographically coveted user base would substantially diminish its value to Murdoch.
