Yahoo Search Tests Delicious Integration into the SERPS

January 22nd, 2008 by Loren Baker, Editor | 2 Comments

Yahoo Search is testing the integration of Delicious.com bookmarking information into its search results. The Delicious integration shows the Yahoo searcher the number of people who have bookmarked a specific page in Delicious and the most popular tags used.

Yahoo Delicious

Such bookmarking could be seen as a quality search metric and perhaps influence the choice of the Yahoo user as to which selection they will choose out of the search results. As an added bonus, the user tagging also adds external meta data into the mix which better defines the content which is located on the indexed page as well as how others defined it.

The inclusion is a win-win for Yahoo as Delicious adds more quality and depth to the Yahoo Search results while also introducing the social bookmarking service to those who have not used it before.

this is a great idea. i hope they incorporate the tagging into their algorithms, that could help the relevance of the results enormously.

indeed a good idea. the tags users add when posting a site to del.icio.us sometimes are more relevant than the description of the site in the google result list.
