Yahoo Opens New Search Engine for China

June 21st, 2004 by Loren Baker, Editor | 7 Comments

Yahoo entered the Chinese market again by unveiling a new Yahoo based search engine dedicated to Internet searches for China - Yisou! Last week Google Inc. also made its first voyage into Chinese Search in a sure fire expansion of the Search Engine Wars onto the mainland.

The new site called “Yisou,” which translates into “No. 1 search” in English, would differ from its Chinese-language portal in that it would focus solely on Web searches, a spokesman for Yahoo told Rueters News Service.

“The introduction of Yisou will help extend our reach into the rapidly growing search market in China,” David Lu, vice president of Yahoo North Asia, said in the statement.
