President Bush Likes the Google Maps

It’s always a hoot to hear presidents recollect their first uses of the technologies which changed the world while they have been in office. I believe I read in an interview that Clinton used email one time while President and George H.W. Bush had his notorious amazement with bar code scanners during his term in the Oval Office.

Think Progress captures a CNBC interview with President George W. Bush on his use of Google:

HOST: I’m curious, have you ever googled anybody? Do you use Google?

BUSH: Occasionally. One of the things I’ve used on the Google is to pull up maps. It’s very interesting to see — I’ve forgot the name of the program — but you get the satellite, and you can — like, I kinda like to look at the ranch. It remind me of where I wanna be sometimes.

  1. Ivan Pope says:

Aah, isn’t he just like Forrest Gump? I picture him, sitting in the Oval Office, and mooning over a Google satellite image of his ranch.

  2. Margherite says:

Yes, but Winston Groom invented Forrest Gump. George Bush may be delusional, but he sure isn’t fictional.

  3. Mike says:

Nice to read that the President is using Google Earth on occassion. Considering he is presecuting a global war on terrorism he probably gets little time to enjoy some of the simple things most of us do daily.

btw– it’s nice to see your post did not take any cheap shots at him, so many bloggers(and commentors)seemed to take great pleasure at knocking him for everything and anything.

  4. Ron says:

It might be bad manners to take shots at Bush at every opportunity, but try to convince me that Bush really IS prosecuting a global war on terrorism.

  5. Mike, I’d be let down if any Commander-In-Chief was using Google Maps to do their research instead of the real mapping systems from the NSA.
