MySpace.com : Fastest Growing Top Site
According to Nielsen, the fastest growing sites/brands on the Internet prominently featured social media and at least one surprise, the Associated Press. Flickr, MySpace and Wikipedia experienced year-over-year traffic growth of 201%, 183% and 181% respectively, while the AP grew 234%.
However, among the top Internet sites generally MySpace was the fastest growing overall. Here are the top 10 sites and their respective growth rates according to Nielsen:
* MySpace — 183%
* Google — 23%
* eBay — 13%
* MapQuest — 11%
* Yahoo! — 8%
* MSN/Windows Live — 5%
* Amazon — 5%
* Real Network — 3%
* AOL — 1%
* Microsoft — -5%

How long can MySpace keep this going? (I spoke to someone today about Korean transplant social networking site Cyworld’s US launch and whether there can be any hope of gaining traction in such a competitive social media marketplace. Answer: maybe.)
