Google Transit Adds 5 New Cities

Google Transit, the Google Maps & Public Transportation Mashup, has expanded outside of Portland, Oregon to 5 new destinations.

The new Google Transit destinations include Tampa, Florida, Honolulu, Eugene, Oregon, Pittsburgh, and Seattle.

Most of the towns on this list make great sense for Google Transit given their existing superb public transportation systems, especially Eugene, Oregon – which is a University, Environmentalist, Hippie Town and Tourist Area Honolulu.

The city which sticks out, for me, on this list is Tampa. I spent a good bit of this past summer in Tampa and was astonished at the amount of drunk driving which goes on in the area. Adding an abundance of parking, lack of patrol cars, and not too many people taking advantage of public transportation into the mix, and I’m wholeheartedly tipping my hat to Google on this one.

Bravo Google Transit, let’s challenge Tampa residents to use their public transportation in the same fashion as those from the Pacific NorthWest.
