Google’s Matt Cutts issued the announcement that Google [Toolbar] PageRank was going through an update over the weekend, and it seems that the rollout of the update began Friday night or yesterday, with the PageRank of some sites rising in value and others dropping.
Sure, Toolbar PageRank is not a valid indicator of everything that goes on behind the scenes at Google, and penalties associated with PageRank … or the changing of PageRank, do not have a direct effect on site ranking in Google. PageRank is seen however as a quality indicator by publishers, advertisers and average neighborhood web users, so a site’s toolbar PageRank does have importance.
Our PageRank is now a 6. Search Engine Journal was a 7 for years, and I believe did hit 8 once. We were lowered to PageRank 4 last year for about a month during that whole PageRank and paid links debate.
Hmmm… interesting :)
How did the latest Google Pagerank (er.. Google Toolbar PageRank) update treat your site’s PR? Please feel free to share your experiences below in the comments.

My directory went PRO, which seems odd to me since I follow the rules. I even have my site in google webmasters, but do not have any warnings. It just does not seem right…

Interesting to note that the BBC’s website went from a PR9 (it was always my example of a UK PR9 site) to PR8.

Links Directories now have PR0 inner pages
So they do not give any SEO benefit….
It appears that even the top one’s are affected as well as the common templates

Dear colleagues
does the PR update affects all site worldwide equally and at the same time? Our German news site ( http://www.lufee.de ) dropped this spring from 7 to 6. At the same time the English site ( http://www.lufee.com ), that has the same PR over years was reattributed an own PR?
Any explanations? THANKS.

I’m getting pretty sick of all the Google PR stuff. I was a 5 then down to a 4 on the last re-jiggering they did. Then I went back up to a 5 and now I’m back to a 4 on this latest “adjustment”. The thing that burns me is that my competition has gone up to 4s and they use paid links, link farms, etc.
As previously stated, doesn’t ultimately matter since I still am number 1 for “glass jewelry” and some of my other keywords - Best to ignore PR.

“Links Directories now have PR0 inner pages

That was a TOTAL disconnect (not that I’ve been a fan of “SEO-friendly” links directories).
Toolbar PR isn’t telling you much about anything. Nonetheless, we should be asking Google some questions.

Our site, http://www.sellingredding.com had a pagerank of 2 and it did rise to a 3 over the weekend. We also rose to page 1 for our search term instead of the top of page 2 in Google so we were happy this morning! At one point we were a pr 4 but dropped when we did some major site changes so it is good to be going up again!
wisdom on Jul 28, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Looks like your site is down to a 1 Mindy :(
Mindy Cronic on Jul 28, 2008 at 4:52 pm
hmmm…I was just there after I read your post…double-checked that I wasn’t seeing things so I checked the cache on Google but…sure enough, I went down. Well I am still on page 1 so that is all I am worried about! Thanks wisdom for setting me straight.

In my case, I am so excited. My blog is now seven months old.It has moved from PR2 to PR3. And amazingly, it is doing so well in SERPs. It ranks better than blogs with a superior ToolBar PR.

**when Google updates Page Ranks monthly or yearly?
**27th july,2008 updated page rank.so again when we will expect Google page rank update?
If any one knows, Pls share with me.

@Vijay:Google updates ToolBar PR after 3 or 4 months. We should be expecting another update in at the end of October or November 2008.

oh..so they did an update over the weekend?
i was pleasantly surprised when i saw my pagerank today go up from 0 to 3. my blog is very new and i don’t update often, so i didn’t expect it to gain pagerank until next year. i always thought it takes time.
David Bradley on Jul 30, 2008 at 3:38 am
Sciencebase.com still at PR7 thankfully…although it did take a hit way back dropping from a PR8, which was a shame at the time. I doubt I’ll get back there now.
inday on Jul 30, 2008 at 4:00 am
too bad i still don’t have a PR. it’s still n/a.
here’s my blog.. http://inday-stories.blogspot.com
i’ve been struggling really hard this past weeks submitting to directories and exchanging links. that’s all i could do. I hope that’s enough to give my blog a PR.

No change on our home page, just interior pages. Our current site has been up since Jan 1, so… we’re making steady progress.
Dinesh Singh Rawat on Jul 30, 2008 at 12:55 pm
My website PR 4 went to PR 2 with new Google log so what we say it marking forces are pressuring search engines to change rank as per their suitability .
industryfinest on Jul 31, 2008 at 7:04 pm
My home page was a pr2, but moved up to a pr3 and lots of pr2 pages through-out the site. I’ve been working very hard with relevance in key words for my blogs and news articles and thought that I should have gotten a PR5, but I will keep working my SEO on the site and maybe the next go around in a few months!!!

Hi
One of my new sites went from PR0 to PR2. One of my other new sites has a homepage at 0 :-(
David Bradley on Aug 2, 2008 at 4:50 am
Do you reckon that mentioning one’s site on this page could attract Google’s attention and lead to them checking one out manually?

Mine stayed the same, PR4 to PR4

Nothing changed for me
Jules on Aug 5, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Found just about all of my sites and clients sites droped by 1 Google PR point. SERPS don’t seem to be affected.
As Matt said this is just a ‘Toolbar PR Update’ and I think the hints coming out of Google are that the PR is less important than it was a couple of years back.

Would it be right to speculate that as long as there are backlinks (decent ones) and a blog is updated on occasion that we can expect to see some PR on the next update?
Cheers
