Google has acquired Marratech, a video conferencing software company which will enable desktop driven videoconferencing from Google.
Douglas Merrill, VP of Engineering writes on the Google Blog:
As a company, we thrive on casual interactions and spontaneous collaboration. So we’re excited about acquiring Marratech’s video conferencing software, which will enable from-the-desktop participation for Googlers in videoconference meetings wherever there’s an Internet connection.
Expect integration of the Marratech videoconferencing software into the Google Personalized Homepage Google Apps and Google Talk.
Moveover WebEx and Microsoft Live Meeting, Google may have something meatier.
