Let the build up and anticipation begin, as Wikia Search has announced that it will be opening its social doors on Monday, January 7th to try and change the way people search online.
The community driven search initiative from the people who brought us Wikipedia, and is based on the four organizing principles of transparency, community, quality and privacy, relying on human intuition to bring results which bots and algortihms cannot.
Other commercial efforts are trying to do so, like Yahoo Answers or Mahalo, but Wikia Search has been anticipated to launch for a long time now, and the world is waiting to see what magic the Wikipedia team can work with this new project. More information on Wikia Search to come out on Monday!

If Wikia Search proves to be as successful as Wikipedia than this initiative has unbounded potential. Currently there really is not other search that has its focus on the human aspect of online searches. I will be very interested to see whether it can gain a firm position within the highly competitive search engine arena.

Wikia Search is surely a great open-source idea. However it is now too early to predict if this search engine will become so popular as top web search engines. I also wonder how many language versions of Wikia Search will be available?
