Today I typed Google.com into my URL box in my Firefox browser and Google.com automatically redirected me to iGoogle, the Google Account holder personalized homepage.
This is the first time I have witnessed this automatic serving of the Google Personalized Homepage to a registered Google user. Personally, I hardly ever visit the Google.com homepage, as I search Google via their Firefox extension or the Google Toolbar, or use GMail as my Google entry page.
Today however I decided to check out Google.com, and was redirected, which makes sense as Google is working to become more and more or a universal channel oriented portal.
After logging out of my Google account I also noticed that Google.com is redirecting to the iGoogle homepage, even if the user does not hold a Google Account.

Yea, this has been happening for a long time. It happens if you visit iGoogle and then leave. Then if you go back to Google.com, it will take you back to iGoogle. Only way to change it back is to click on “classic home page” at the top.

Odd, I never intentionally visit iGoogle. I really can’t remember the last time I visited in the past three months nor is it in my history.
You’re right Barry, clicking on Classic Google changes it back, but bizarre I was ever switched over in the first place. Guess another Google inspired opt-out option :)

Yea, threw me for a loop several months ago. I see it pop up in the forums all the time.

Been happening for a very long time. NBD, just go back and as Barry said click on Classic Google. I happen to like it, but agree that it’s strange to go there even if you’re logged out of your Google account. Makes you wonder about a few things…

I first saw that happen in June of last year (before, I believe, the personalized homepage was even called iGoogle): http://www.all-about-content.com/2006/06/new-design-omg-not-enough-ponies_06.html

Begs the question: what is your homepage set to at Firefox? LOL I can’t remember the last time I typed google.com into the browser, since I have become so used to the toolbar as well as the browser opening there.

Well, that’s the Firefox/Google default homepage. But I hardly ever visit the good old fashioned Google.com
