When a search engine that has an incredibly miniscule percentage of the search market share fails, does anyone listen?
Over the weekend Accoona, the same China backed search engine that had Bill Clinton speak at its launch party and was giving away cars left and right as recent as a year ago, has closed its doors.

Dear Accoona search users,
Due to an overwhelmingly competitive search market, Accoona.com and Accoona.cn will no longer be active.
We thank you for your previous support.
Sincerely,
Accoona Management
Accoona tried reinventing itself many times right out of the gate, claiming to have its own AI technology to rerank Google web results, then deliver targeted news results, filing an $80.5 Million IPO, and launching a ‘talking’ toolbar.
The company has now faded away to nothing, atleast to the consumer. I wonder what is happening to its toolbar info tracking and proprietary AI?

Well I missed there inception. Looks like their exit from the world might be getting better publicity than their entry into it.

Google rules and for the foreseeable future they will continue to
i think theres possible room in the market for an image and video search engine but will need a lot of luck

I wonder how many times you’ll go to a search engine and find that message within the next 1-4 years. Anyone? bets?

We helped promoting Accoona in Paris during a profile raising event. We showcased Accoona with searches for highly competitive keywords in the them of Education, Arts and culture. I was impressed with its potential myself as some of the results were more accurate than those from the big search engine gorillas, but I supposed it is not just about having good ideas, a good product, or the right infrastructure, in the the SE market nowadas you have to be increadibly strong both financially and operationally to be able to compete with the larger search engines… bye Accoona
