Google GMail Experiences Major Worldwide Outage

Sometimes rapid growth, which Google GMail has been experiencing over the past year, has its setbacks and last night was no exception. A major Google Mail outage has been reported by numerous bloggers, myself included, as GMail seemed to have been down from about 1 am EST to 7:30 am EST (it is now working for me).

Over on Dave N’s blog, Dan Horton reported that the UK started seeing problems at 9:30 am, linking over to BBC coverage of the worldwide GMail outage.

Barry Schwartz of Search Engine Roundtable has also confirmed that GMail is having issues in the states. Barry points to a Google Groups support thread with major GMail errors being reported.

A major GMail outage back in August of 2008 led to major coverage of the event, both online and offline, which led me to question : Are we too dependent on GMail?.
