Top Microsoft officials has expressed that the company is not going on a buying spree of other internet properties after it’s bid failed to reach a Yahoo-Microsoft deal.Amidst the rumors that Microsoft is planning to acquire some other targets such as Facebook, AOL among other smaller internet properties, Microsoft’s Steve Balmer said that analysts don’t really know what they are talking about.
In an FT report, Balmer mentioned that the sole reason why Microsoft wanted to acquire Yahoo was to strengthen their search advertising strategy. Balmer also said that:
At the end of the day, this is about the ad platform. This is not about just any one of the applications.
Balmer even underscored the fact that the most important application in the near future is web search. And finallyMicrosoft revealed its plan relating to web search:
We don’t have to dominate, but we’d better have a darn good chunk of the search market over time.
