Yahoo Search is rolling out a new form of categorizing search results which are listed in vertical Yahoo! Shortcuts, which are intended to enhance and optimize the user experience by narrowing down broad web searches.
The first Category Narrowing Experience focus is on restaurant search results, which uses Yahoo Local search data and pulls in social data such as user reviews of the most popular restaurants in a specific area. A search for “Tampa Restaurants” results in some of my favorite area fine dining establishments being served by Yahoo!.
The results bring up three categories that help the user narrow down choices; by cuisine type, neighborhood and highest user ratings.
Yahoo! says that lifestyle and planning shortcuts have also been added : “Searches along the lines of romantic restaurant + city, brunch + city, fine dining + city and variations on the word “restaurant” + city, will return the integrated category display options.”
