MySpace.com Issues Amber Alerts

Social networking giant and Mega-Google partner MySpace.com has said in a statement that they will start distributing geotargeted Amber Alerts to members notifying them of missing children in their communities.

MySpace has teamed up with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children for this new innovative service.

These online alerts would be broadcasted starting today and it would be issued to users in the ZIP codes where it was issued.

The messages would be showed in a small text box at the top of a user’s portfolio. Users would be able to click on the message to get more information on the missing person.

Good to see a site that has mass reach used for something good.

  2. Yeah, agreed Paul, quite refreshing.

I would like to see the major search engines and networks get involved in something similar… like using the Google Adwords, MSN adCenter or Yahoo SM #1 spots to post Amber Alerts to specific geotargeted communities or something along that nature.

Possibly a much better use of the PSA concept :)
