iPod Bloopers

You know you’ve got a strong brand when people are going through the trouble to make fun of it. Whenever a company makes a big impact with their marketing they always end up with a few mocks in magazines or on television. When this happens, it actually says a lot about the brand that is in the spotlight. It means that they’ve reached a lot of people with a consistent message and gotten people excited about something. Recently, this has become the case for the Apple iPod and there are a ton of videos mocking their marketing of this product.
I noticed this from the 1,597 videos that contain the tag iPod on YouTube. Most of those videos are made by fans of the iPod and the content ranges from a pornographic parody on iPod commercials all the way to a mock Microsoft redesign of the iPod packaging. Imagine that your marketing message was so strong, wide reaching, and crystal clear that people all over are able to parody it.
Check out these videos and see for yourself:

The iPod Flea

The iPod Porno

Steve Jobs makes fun of his creation

The iPod Rap

The iPad

After seeing some of these you might wonder if this is a good thing or not. On the outside it might seem like bad press, however a closer look reveals that these videos were played over 600,000 times. That’s the equivalent of 600,000 free commercials that all act together to reinforce the fact that there is no such thing as an MP3 player, just the iPod.
