Google Japan Penalized by Google for Paid Links

Google has slapped down a penalty on Google Japan for publicly and somewhat arrogantly paying bloggers to write about them and link to Google Japan services.

Google is not the top search engine in Japan, which is dominated by Yahoo Japan. So, in essence, Google was link spamming Yahoo Japan.

Why do I say Google was link spamming Yahoo Japan and not “Google Japan”? Because Google Japan is a part of Google and not independent from Google.com, so it’s not like Google Japan is some rogue company or joint venture just using the Google name. Yahoo Japan however is a separate entity from Yahoo USA.

How did Google Penalize Google Japan? They dropped their PageRank from a 9 to a 5 LOL!

Good for Google to show a bit of self governance.
