Despite the fact that Apple blocked the official Google Voice app last July, rumor has it that within the next few weeks that very application will be making its way back to the iTunes store. In September after Apple released their set of guidelines that shows developers which applications will and won’t be allowed into the App Store, it was noticed that none of the rules prohibited Google from applying to have the GV app reinstated.
A number of third-party applications are already available for purchase and download, but it is almost guaranteed that the official application will offer features that the others cannot; including things like inbound SMS and voicemail push notifications since an API isn’t provided by Google for those features.
Tech Crunch reached out to Google about the mattered and they issued this statement:
“We currently offer Google Voice mobile apps for Blackberry and Android, and we offer an HTML5 web app for the iPhone. We have nothing further to announce at this time.”
