Hey man - thanks for the tips and thoughts.

Quick question - if you're advising against using both the Google Analytics and Adwords Conversion Tracking Codes on the same page, and you're in favor of Adwords Tracking when it comes to conversions, then how do we track conversions that don't come from Adwords advertising campaigns, but from organic traffic instead?

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Brian,

Great video intro to Conversion tracking. Cleared a lot of things up that I wasn't aware of.

I have seen companies adding Call Tracking to Adwords conversion tracking to get greater granular detail about their converisions.

Dont fully understand why they'd do this or why they need such granular info.

Thoughts?

Hi Brian,

Any feedback on how to use Conversion tracking on an eCommerce site that sells multiple products? I'm not seeing a clear way to do this.

Best,

Adam

Hi Brian,

First of all, great post.

It really amazes how many advertisers don't understand the importance of adwords conversion tracking. What's even worse, is that they place the tracking code at the wrong pages and are thinking they are having great conversion rate. They should be slammed back to PPC 001.

Whitney, when I tried to get to that level of detail with Google's reps, they just reassured me that they couldn't guarantee how it would act and that multiple conv code on same page was not recommended or supported.

"If your prospect has clicked on an ad for each (both) in the last 30 days, then when they reach the confirmation page, both codes could be triggered, and the same revenue passed into both."
Adwords Advisor said the second cookie overwrites the previous one, so there could not be a mess. However we actually got an account showing 0 conversion. So how's the solution?

Phillip- if you're using the same page, it's complicated. If it's a server-side scripted IF/THEN, then place the conversion code in the THEN section where your thank you message is.

If you have a different set up, it might not work, and you may need to create a real separate page for the thank you and conversion code.
