Quickly Find out Which SERPS Page You Are Ranked

I love those tiny, less-known scripts that are fun to play with. Last time I shared one that highlights your domain within Google SERPs and here’s another script which makes a good company to that highlighting one: a Greasemoneky script that shows which page of Google search results your site is at.

The script takes you exactly to the page where your domain is, so you won’t have to click-through yourself. Here’s how it works:

  • Make sure you have Greasemonkey plugin installed and download the script;
  • Go to Google, provide your search term and hit “Search”,
  • Notice one more field and type your domain there,
  • Hit “Go”, sit back and wait for the tool to list through the pages until it finds you.

Which page am I on?

By default, the tool stops at page 30 if your domain is not found. To search deeper, you can edit the script:

  • Select Tools -> Greasemonkey -> Manage user scripts;
  • Choose “Which page am I on? ” in the left-hand panel;
  • Click “Edit”. This should open the installed version of the script in your favorite text editor. (If it doesn’t, choose any text editor to open the script);
  • Find this line and change “30″ to whatever you want:

var lastPage = 30

Edit script

  • I really have enjoyed this add-on for many months. Thanks to the creator.
  • Hi, I am using firefox 3.5.7 but It doesn’t stop on the searched domain. How to stop it the searching process?

    thanks

    the only problem is that after 2 or 3 searches, google blocks you - it's going on 30 minutes now, i don't know for how long
  • Hey Ann,

    I finally got it to work thanks to Shabu's comment above. James had mentioned it too but it just didn't sink in until now.

    I was using Google's search box on the webpage instead of the one in the Navigation Toolbar in the farthest most upper right hand corner. Just make sure you use the drop down menu and select Google before you start your search.

    I could get it to work another way and that was to do an Advanced Search.

    Thanks,
    Jeff Sargent
  • Ahh, it's working! I had to use Firefox search box for!

    Thanks a lot Ann, it's really a life saver tool :)
  • I could not get it to work either. The second box would not come up, even after restarting Firefox and verifying current version of Greasemonkey and disabling all other plugins (which I shouldn't have to do).

    I did, however, get it to work in Opera. I found the instructions here: http://www.ghacks.net/2008/08/10/greasemonkey-i...
  • This is very useful and I think I've found a way to ensure you get the second box. It only comes on when you click the 'Greasemonkey' icon in the bottom right hand corner of the browser.
  • Thank you so much for sharing, this just saved me hours of SEO work.
  • Very useful script, thanks!
  • Don't know why I can't see the second box, any idea Ann?
  • Hey Ann,

    I have been looking for a script like this for months so you can understand my excitement when I came across it here on your blog.

    The unfortunate thing is that I can't get it to work. I've installed Greasemonkey and the script and restarted Firefox but to no avail.

    Does anyone have any ideas as I'm just dying to use this.

    Thanks for this great tool tip Ann. I'm sure I will get to use it at some point.

  • It would have been nice if I had mentioned the problem I said I was having. I can't get the second text box to appear where you input the domain.

    I've restarted Firefox and then finally uninstalled the script and rebooted Windows.

    Still no second text box.

    Please HELP!

  • Try searching on Google from the search box in the top right of Firefox.

    In my case I went to Google.co.uk and the box did not show. A search here seems to use a different URL format and thus didn't trigger the script.

    The search page URL has to be of the form "*google.*/search?" in order to trigger the script.
  • Jeff, so sorry. I wish I could help. It worked great with me and I have no idea why it didn't work with you. Probably it would be a good idea to contact the script developer?
  • Need to give this tool a try. Would be worth it :)
  • Tried it on Opera. It doesn't stop on the searched domain. just goes on and on ....
  • I'm playing w/ this now. Really cool and useful script. Of course I would expect no less from you Ann. ;-)
  • I installed it and my result page does include the second text box for me to type in a domain, but the moment I try to type in that box the cursor jumps back to the main search box. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Love your stuff Ann!
  • Oh not sure... it worked fine with me. Do you have other scripts installed? Did you try to re-start FireFox?
  • This would be incredibly useful, but I'm having trouble getting it to work now that it's installed. Any troubleshooting ideas?
  • Ann, great stuff... was just playing with it. You may want to note that one needs to sign out of Google to ensure personalization and Search Wiki aren't affecting the results... The script doesn't recognize that :0)
