Jews for Jesus Files Suit Against Google & Blogger

Just in time for Christmas, a religious group is looking to cause a bit of a legal spat or possibly a rather large PR play as they have filed suit against the Google owned Blogger for farming out their official name in a Blogspot domain name. The Christian Evangelical group Jews for Jesus is suing Google to obtain rights to the jewsforjesus.blogspot.com sub domain and damages which resulted in the use of the religious group’s name in a blog domain and title.

The current blog, http://jewsforjesus.blogspot.com, is somewhat of an anti-Jews for Jesus project hosted and updated via Google Blogger. The suit, which was filed in U.S. District Court in New York on Wednesday, seeks to force Google to give Jews for Jesus control of the site as well as unspecified monetary damages.

“We have a right to our own name and Google has allowed the use of our name on Blogspot without our permission…Our reputation is at stake” said Susan Perlman, associate executive director with Jews for Jesus to Reuters.

This lawsuit is sure to open up a whole new set of domain name squatting issues as blogs which are hosted on various sub domains are allowed by those subdomains to use the names of various companies, organizations and even people in the blog domain and title. Merry Christmas and Happy Commenting :)

Google doesn’t prohibit our website, but since 25/5/2009, our impressions and clicks have flatlined. Their rep wrote that it’s all about our ‘landing page quality,’ ‘ad quality,’ etc. However, no amount of input seems to satisfy Google. An add begins to run and generates clicks, but only for a day, and thne we are back to square one again.
