Baidu, the leading search engine in China, has signed a deal with the affiliate of Mozilla in China to embed all the search engine’s functions in the Firefox browser for a fee. Until now Baidu’s seach engine had been integrated on a limited basis.
It’s not clear, at least to me, how “users of the Chinese Firefox would be able to do online search more conveniently” compared to before.
The market share of Firefox in China is still very small, between 1.5% and 2%.
If Baidu would start promoting Firefox as well, and they now have a reason to do this, that would be a good sign for Firefox here.
The best part of a bigger Firefox share in China is that developers will have to start making websites that also work nicely in my own preferred browser.
