Yahoo Acquires del.icio.us : FlickrYahoolicious!
This has been a huge week for Yahoo and their Social Media – Life Engine direction as they have launched Yahoo Answers and acquired del.icio.us within a 2 day span. If you baseball fans thought that the Winter GM meetings were exciting, just pay attention to Yahoo as they have become the Toronto Bluejays of the Web 2.0 Free Agent Market.
Yahoo’s acquisition of del.icio.us adds to their current gameplan of building a user controlled and socially integrated web content and search experience, complete with tagging, image sharing, customization, blogging and full online communications integration. Yahoo is proactively gearing up to be the information portal of choice for the ‘Always On’ generation.
Now, with Flickr, del.icio.us, Yahoo Answers, My Yahoo RSS, Yahoo MyWeb and a new Yahoo VOIP service under its belt, Yahoo is ready to take the field with full integration into their Yahoo Local, MyWeb Search, Games, Messenger, Yahoo Shopping, Yahoo Entertainment and News & Blog Search.
Voicing his excitement of the acquisition, Joshua of del.icio.us writes:
“We’re proud to announce that del.icio.us has joined the Yahoo! family. Together we’ll continue to improve how people discover, remember and share on the Internet, with a big emphasis on the power of community. We’re excited to be working with the Yahoo! Search team – they definitely get social systems and their potential to change the web. (We’re also excited to be joining our fraternal twin Flickr!)…
I look forward to continuing my vision of social and community memory, and taking it to the next level with the del.icio.us community and Yahoo!”
I don’t know about you all, but I’m really looking forward to see how Yahoo integrates these services in 2006.
