Yahoo Search Marketing is serving what seem to be some experimental ads throughout the Yahoo Network which use Flash animation to rotate the contextual advertisements which are being served.
I first realized this when doing some research within Yahoo Sports and found it surprising that Yahoo Search Marketing was serving a skyscraper ad with links to Yahoo services and not the pages of YSM advertisers:
To my surprise, after 10 seconds or so, the Yahoo Search Marketing ads changed from the internal Yahoo ads to the ads of Yahoo advertisers:
Once the ads rotated once, they did not change again. I refreshed the screen multiple times and each time the advertiser ads were different, but the Yahoo ads always the same. Some of the advertiser ads were local & profile targeted (I’ve recently been searching for Plasma TV’s in the Tampa area and some ads were served for Plasma TV stores in Tampa), but most were not.
None of the ads were targeted towards sports products or tickets, which was surprising since I was logged into and digging deep down into Yahoo Sports Baseball pages.
