Do you often need to find images similar to the one you liked? You can’t find the words to describe it – you just need more images of the kind or the same image with a higher resolution.
TinEye, reverse image search I previously mentioned on my unloved personal blog, has developed the FireFox plugin that makes searching for images more fun.
TinEye is the first image search engine on the web to use image identification technology rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks. When you submit an image to be searched, TinEye creates a unique and compact digital signature or ‘fingerprint’ for it, then compares this fingerprint to every other image in our index to retrieve matches. TinEye does not typically find similar images; it finds exact matches including those that have been cropped, edited or resized.
It works great actually:
- Just install the addon and re-start your FireFox;
- Right-click on any image;
- Click “Search image with TinEye”
You can search for similar images right from Google image search results for example:

And here are the similar images found:

That seems like a great tool for finding stolen and/or un-attributed images…might be a good way to do some link building, i.e.
“We noticed you used our image without attribution. We’re happy that you like our photo, but we have to ask you to link to our site if you’d like to continue to use it.”
Great tool … But it would be great if u had given link to that add-on
Ann, once again – another slick FF add-on! And I totally agree with Jason – this is going to potentially be a huge win for photographers wanting to protect their rights!
Nice ! Thx. it’s an utlimate weapon for coyright !
I have used this to look up potentially stolen images that are being sold as prints on deviantart and, as the site states, its technology is quite limited at this point.
However, I am counting on their team to expand the site and hopefully put a stop to creative theft. I am looking forward to what it can do in the future!
