This sounds like email spam to generate link spam. If many people respond to Chris’ email, it will just create blogroll noise.

I must say, who ever wrote the letter knows how to write an ad piece. It is a clever system. Ultimately, I think this scheme perverts social networking.

I’m glad you didn’t go for it.

Yes, I think there is some leverage a site can gain in trading incoming links (or articles) for the Social Marketing of a source site.

If this spammer (and one can argue if it’s spam or not, but I call it spam) would clean up his act a bit, he may be on to something.

I think if Chris swapped the ‘blogroll link exchange’ part for article exchange, that would work as well.

He would also do well to send you to specific areas of his website (but that would require a manual review of your site first) so that you see relevant content.

Lots of things he could do to make it personal and easy to respond to.
