I've spent some time in Japan and they are very careful about their privacy and of course the respect of others. This is not surprising that the Japanese public would react this way. What is surprising is the Law and Order, Don't Tread On Me American Public hasn't stepped up more to object to this service.

It's a great feature. I was travelling in Japan in Feb 2009 and actually used the Google Street view to find the exact location of my hostel and to familiarise myself with the way of getting there. Having never visited Tokyo and speaking no Japanese it would have been pretty difficult for me to find my way there otherwise. Obviously Google needs to police it in some way, but I think it is something they should keep.

I have to say when I first saw Google street view it tripped me out a bit. Using my TMobile G1 I was able to find a street view of my house and zoom in a bit. I could actually see my car in the driveway. I was like wtf? I can understand the japanesez, or anybody for that matter being concerned about privacy. That being said Google street view is really cool hehe. ;-)
