A Cool WordPress Plugin to Integrate Facebook “Like” Functionality

If you liked Facebook’s popular “Like” functionality and want to engage your Facebook fan page users or just random Facebookers, you will love the plugin we are sharing today.

You may have noticed that since last week we have been giving our readers the ability to “like” our posts on Facebook. So here I am sharing the plugin that enables everyone to grab this functionality to their blogs.

The plugin is called “WordPress Facebook “Like” Button” – it is installed as a regular plugin and have a few options that help customize it. To access the options, browse to Settings->WP FB Like Button and there:

  • Select button alignment:
  • Choose the layout style;
  • Select if you want the plugin to show the faces of Facebook users who liked a post;
  • Set it to sound as “Like” or “Recommend”;
  • Choose the color scheme (either light or dark);
  • Select the widget height and width:

Here’s how the plugin looks like when you disable the count (this is what you see on SEJ currently):

Here’s an example of how it might look if you enable the count:

The Like button enables users to make connections to your pages and share content back to their friends on Facebook with one click. This means if you click it, the update will be shared on your Facebook profile:

So far we are loving the plugin. It looks natural and seems engaging. What are your thoughts?

    While I suppose it's engaging and certainly appropo for blog posts – and nice that it integrates with Facebook – I think the whole “like” button thing is going too far. For one thing, there's no “Dislike” option. I preferred the way YouTube used to have a ratings system instead of just a Like button, and I preferred the old “Become a Fan” on Facebook. To me, it makes no sense to go to a fan page now and have it say “100 people like this”.

    Wow, thanks for highlighting this, it's a super handy little plugin & saves me the time / effort of trying to hack something together myself.

    I continue to reserve the right to avoid facebook or anything resembling it. :) I really don't want to see facebook get any bigger, and if anything want to see a growing diversity on the net, as I'm not impressed with the games and polls on facebook. Maybe this plugin would move people away from facebook? If so, I'm all ears!

    That is actually awesome. Implemented it there. Perfect, except that for some reason I can't see the panel under settings, but that's probably from a conflicting plugin.

    Great stuff.

    I added this to my blog recently as well and am proposing it for a number of clients. One confusion I am running into is the belief that hitting the Like button will show up to others in your facebook news feed. As mentioned above, it will not. Enter the good old AddThis button.

    The like button is a good tool, but the 1-2 line post on the users Facebook wall can get buried fast or not even be seen. I use both the Like button and the Share button to give users an option. The share button however allows the user to post a comment and it will show much more info. It will show the name of the page and linked along with 3 lines of text, with an optional image.

  12. It's important to engage readers with your blog, so I really like this plugin. Facebook is still growing in popularity, so it's the right time for a plugin like this.
