Facebook Expands Lookalike Audiences Globally

Global

Looking to expand your business globally? Facebook has a couple new advertising targeting features you’ll want to know about.

Facebook has announced an update to Lookalike Audiences that should make it easier for advertisers to reach consumers around the globe.

The social network introduced Lookalike Audiences in 2013. Basically, it lets you target your ads to people who behave similarly to, or have common attributes of, a pre-set audience (e.g., people who have liked your Facebook page or visited your website).

International Lookalike Audiences

To take advantage of the enhanced Lookalike Audiences feature, you’ll have to upload a list of emails. This should include your existing customers and leads, Facebook noted. Then you can target international customers in new countries (worldwide, regional, or a specific country) based on your list.

So, for example, if you’re based in the U.S. and want to target Facebook users in Brazil, you need to have a minimum of 100 people from the U.S. as your Lookalike Audience source list. Facebook will then find similar people in Brazil based on your source and show your ads to those people.

Extended Location Targeting & More

Facebook has extended location targeting if the objective of your Facebook ad is for a website conversion or mobile app install. You can now select a worldwide region or trade zone. Then, Facebook said it will “deliver ads to selected regions and then optimize delivery to the countries with the greatest return.”

Also, Facebook has published a downloadable guide that provides demographic and behavior insights for 10 countries, as well as advertising tips.

In addition, Facebook revealed a couple of interesting stats, including:

  • More than 1 billion Facebook users are connected to at least one business in a foreign country.
  • 60 percent of U.S. Facebook users are connected to a business in a foreign country.

Have you tried Lookalike Audiences? What do you think of this expansion?
