Apple iTunes Hits One Million Video Sales
Strike up another win for Apple’s iTunes as the entertainment download store as issued a statement that over one million videos have been purchased & downloaded from iTunes over the past 19.5 days. n October 12, 2005 iTunes began offering video content for download and playing on the Applie iPod Video.
Apple iTunes Video has been limited to about 2,000 partner video shorts and unedited television programs at the price of $1.99 each. Once Apple’s catalog of iPod Video ready offerings has more of a selection than ABC’s Desperate Housewives, Michael Jackson & Kayne West videos, and Pixar shorts – the video downloading market should really heat up.
Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs thinks that such a positive download response from iTunes customers warrants a stable market for legal video downloads : “Our next challenge is to broaden our content offerings, so that customers can enjoy watching more videos on their computers and new iPods.”
Google, Yahoo, Blinkx.tv and AOL all offer video search services, but none of the multimedia search offerings by these companies are distributing pay-per-download iPod ready Video offerings – yet. Yahoo has however, issued a tip on creating a Yahoo Video Search powered VideoCast for Video iPod Uers, available on the Yahoo Search Blog.
