Yahoo Search Marketing and Viacom Contract for Web Advertising
Yahoo and Viacom have sealed an agreement where Yahoo Search Marketing ads will be shown across Viacom’s network of entertainment and news oriented web channels. Paid search. contextual ads, and other Yahoo powered search features will be integrated into web sites such as BET.com, CBSNews.com, CMT.com, MTV.com, NickJr.com, SHO.com and VH1.com. The deal expands Yahoo Search Marketing’s advertising network and also gives Viacom a legit source of advertising revenue.
Besides the Viacom entertainment sites showing Yahoo Search Marketing ads, Viacom owned TV station sites are continuing to run Kanoodle BrightAds.
Paid Content reports that not all Viacom sites will offer the same array of Yahoo ads: NickJr.com, aimed at the Blues Clues set, is only using contextual ads. BET.com’s search box shows Yahoo’s brand and pulls up internal and external results. The MTV.com search box doesn’t show the Yahoo logo and only includes site-wide results.
Apparently such flexibility appealed to Viacom during contract negotiations. Last week iVillage also began showing Yahoo Search Marketing Content Match ads as publishers are starting to have more of a choice beyond Google contextual advertising.
