How a Single Experiment Can Give You Huge Business Exposure

As per current trends in the search industry, spammers and link builders who mainly work for search engines results rather than users are a thing of the past. Like designers, the search industry is looking for creative minds who can give companies natural exposure instead of artificially built traffic. If you are an SEO it’s your duty to generate such ideas and techniques to get users/customers talking about your brand on diversified platforms.

Therefore, in this article, I am going to share my experiment that I did for my company. Before moving on to the main idea, I want to discuss its brief history and what compelled me to do this experiment. Actually, the whole concept was born in the light of The Great Seth Godin, he discusses the actual meaning of brand in the following words:

“A brand is the set of expectations, memories, stories and relationships that, taken together, account for a consumer’s decision to choose one product or service over another. If the consumer (whether it’s a business, a buyer, a voter or a donor) doesn’t pay a premium, make a selection or spread the word, then no brand value exists for that consumer.”

Before starting my branding campaign it was important for me to analyze what a brand actually is. According to Seth Godin, to make your company a BRAND, it’s necessary to analyze what your customers are expecting from your services and their past experiences. So from this clear cut definition, I derived a simple BRAND formula:

BRAND = Complying with Users’ Expectations + Positive Reviews by Users

If a customer is choosing your company,  it’s obvious that he is expecting something from it, and if you meet his expectations he will likely drop a positive review and the same case applies to millions of users. That’s how you start transforming your company into a BRAND.

Although the experiment was accidental, this one suggestion has led my company towards a huge exposure. At that time, there was an in-house project named “Pie-Register” which is a WordPress plugin for customizing WordPress registration/login page that allows the user to enhance the default registration form by customizing it according to their own needs. We added that plugin to the gallery and suggested adding a logo in the banner. Since WordPress is a popular platform where you can gain huge traffic placing a logo really worked.

Logo as a Branding Weapon

Logo is the most powerful weapon for branding purposes because it gets glued to the users’ mind and whenever he sees the logo he is reminded of the brand. We placed our company logo on the banner so whenever a user sees the logo he is reminded of our company logo. Planting the logo in the user’s brain is the essence of branding.

We already knew worth of and its conversion rate. Therefore, it was really important to give our users the best product in order to comply with their expectations. First, we discussed users’ expectations and why they would prefer this product over other alternatives. Then we released the final outcome in the shape of Pie-Register. We crossed our fingers for a positive response from that experiment.

We got a marvelous response from that experiment, its rating was between 3.5 to 4, which is not bad at all and around 97,000 users have downloaded the plugin. This reflects that we have met the users’ expectations and through this we have achieved their trust.

The above report shows that 97,012 users have downloaded our plugin. Surely, they must have observed our logo too and at that time our analytics clearly showed us that many of them visited our website and went through our other web services. Now you can judge that how a single experiment has given us an exposure of around 100,000 users – WOW! Additionally,  leads start pouring in. So this process went sequentially from an experiment to lead generation.

Sharing Reviews and Thoughts about their Experience

The story hasn’t ended at 97,012 users. It still has a long way to go. How? Those who have tested Pie-Register have also shared their thoughts on diversified platforms including social media, forums and on other websites as shown below in the screenshot.
