Opera to Add Bittorrent, Widgets and Other Features
It has been a long wait for the users of Opera Browser but there is good news, the next preview of the Opera 9 web browser should be out by tomorrow. Opera has revealed that the new version would bring support for widgets. Widgets are small browser windows that display information taken from the Internet on a user’s desktop. These are similar in concept to what the Apple offers with their Mac OS X operating system and Yahoo! have in their Yahoo! Widgets Application.
Opera representative Thomas Ford said in a statement: “It is really a big jump for us into Web applications. They give people the information they want right on the desktop. Even if it is a Web page, people don’t have to go to the browser to see it.”
In addition, the incoming reports also suggest that the new version would also have thumbnail views of the opened tabs in the browser window, which is a feature available in the beta versions of the Internet Explorer 7 web browser. Mozilla Firefox users can use an extension for this feature.
Opera would also be integrating support for the Bittorrent technology in the Opera 9 edition. They have been beta testing this feature since quite sometime and it should make it to the final version of the upcoming Opera 9 web browser.
Opera has also announced a new section on their website called Opera Labs, which should see a launch sometime on Tuesday and should begin its operation with the launch of the second preview of the Opera 9 web browser.
