Mind-Blowing List Building Tip #1

SMS Text

In this 4 part series, I will be discussing 4 key tips that will help you in building your e-mail marketing list. But before we dive right into the ming-blowing list building tips, let’s first talk about why having a list is SO important. Make sure you also check back a little later today for a SEJ exclusive offer, that you can find out about in tip #4.

Why A List Is So Important

1. Direct Communication: Once someone Opts-In to your list, that means you have direct access and communication with a HIGHLY relevant audience. You can send them a message about anything you would like (within reason) and it gets sent directly to their inbox. This makes it easy to send someone to any page or offer you would like. It should go without saying, that if you are not providing value and just sending your list offers, that is the quickest way to lose your credibility and make people unsubscribe.

2. No More Google!: Probably my favorite reason that you need to have an email list is you don’t have to rely on Google to send you traffic. What happens if you have a brand new website, or Google decides to remove your site out of their index for a term that was leading to a large portion of your revenue? What do you do then? With a list, you don’t have to worry about what Google does.

3. You have Built an Asset: Most people don’t think about this, but by building a list, you are building an asset for your business. You have a targeted list of relevant people who are interested in what you have to say. This asset can be extremely enticing if you are ever looking to sell your business or website. Advertisers always want to know if you have a list, because they realize that is where the money is. With a list you can estimate your assets much higher!

4. Make Money: There is a reason why the top marketers have a HUGE list…because it makes them money. Yes, they want to build relationships with their audience, add value, and genuinely help provide useful information to their industry…but at the end of the day, they want to make money. A list is how you can go from making a 4 figure a month income, to 5, 6 or even 7 figures! The ability to send a large list of potential buyers to an affiliate offer, a new product/service you offer, your blog, etc…can be extremely powerful.

Mind-Blowing Tip #1

OK, now that we have gone through why your email list is so important, lets get on with the 1st of 4 list building tips.

Ad Swaps

If you are not familiar with what an Ad Swap is, it is basically when two people agreed to mail for each other. Person A will write an email that usually promotes a free piece of content or product, in hopes of gaining new subscribers from Person B’s list. Person B would mail Person A’s email at a time of their choosing….and vice versa. Person A would mail to their list, Person B’s email.

This is probably one of the fastest way to build your list. Depending on the size of the person’s list that is mailing for you, you can double your list from one mailing. However usually people that swap lists have around the same number of subscribers. Sometimes instead of how big your list size is, they will match the number of clicks they get. Meaning they agree to get 200 people to click the link in the email they are sending out. This i good strategy if someone has a small, but responsive list. A responsive list will be more likely to click on whatever it is you are promoting.

Safe-Swaps.com is a paid service for people who are serious about building their lists and swapping with people who are legit. Safe Swaps is a community of over 6000 users who are all looking to find quality ad swaps. They also help to verify the size of the list a person claims to have, schedule ad swaps, as well as provides community feedback from people who have done previous ad swaps with that particular person. They have a number of different packages to choose from, but they do offer a money back guarantee, so I would highly recommend trying their service for a month and see the results you get.

You have to be careful about what 3rd parties you use to promote your own content. Their audience and yours have to match up, otherwise it is a waste of time. That being said, a good partnership can be extremely valuable for both companies.

      Good point Nick.

If you choose the wrong partners it can actually have a negative impact on your list. Its important to feel each partner out to see what type of list they have.

ah…spot-on Nick! and that “valuation” is what can make or break such a partnership, eh!

you need to judge very carefully, we’ve found….and just because a client desires such a link and “orders” same….you need to vet that link even more so….

So wait… I sign up for YOUR e-mail list because I trust you. And you give it to some other guy I have given no permission to? So he can promote something at me? How is this not spam?

Sure, you can put it in your privacy policy or something but it still seems really icky to me. I know someone did this to my e-mail addresses (and I would know its because you gave it to someone else, its easy to find out) I would unsubscribe immediately and be pissed. You’d lose me as a reader forever.
