Instagram Gets Three New Filters, Brand New Emoji Hashtags

When Instagram introduced five new filters this past December, they were said to be met with “overwhelming excitement” from the community (and who could blame them, that new Ludwig filter is pretty brilliant).

The response to the new filters was so positive that the company has announced the addition of three more filters to its lineup.

Instagrammers will also be happy to know that new filters will be introduced more frequently from now on.

Here’s how the new filters — Lark, Reyes, and Juno — are described:

“Inspired by weekend adventures outdoors, Lark, Reyes and Juno are a family of modern, subtle filters that brighten and enhance your photos in refined, beautiful ways. Lark desaturates reds while punching up blues and greens to bring your landscapes to life. Reyes brings a dusty, vintage look to your moments. And finally, Juno tints cool tones green while making warm tones pop and whites glow for vibrant photos of people.”

Also a staple of Instagram these days are emojis. Realizing this, Instagram has found a new way for you to include them in your posts by allowing them to be used in hashtags.

While that will certainly look cool, I also see it as being a way to add new functionality to the service, especially if you use it as a way to discover new content. Now that emojis can be used in hashtags, they’ll also be searchable, and I can imagine certain emoji searches being a way to find a lot of new and interesting stuff.

In addition, you’ll also be able to create custom emoji hashtags for events and so forth. Sure, they might be a little more difficult type out, but it would be a way to add some unique flavor to your Instagram marketing.

As a compulsive user of Instagram I’m really intrigued by how these new hashtags will end up being used by the community. To try them out on your iOS or Android device, simply upgrade to the latest version which is out now.
