Google Sued By Soft Porn Site Perfect 10 Over Copyrighted Photos
Google is being sued by adult magazine (soft porn) publisher Perfect 10 due to Google serving images of copyrighted material which is illegally posted on third-party sites. Unlike Playboy or other nudie mags, Perfect 10 specializes in photos and videos of “naturally” built women who have not enhanced their curves with plastic surgery or implants (I only found out the difference after doing some investigative research for this story). Perfect 10 has asked a federal court to prevent Google and Amazon from displaying copywrited picturesin image results and links to those photos.
Perfect 10 asked the judge to set a Nov. 7 hearing on its request for preliminary injunctions against Amazon and Google. According to InformationWeek,.the Amazon case is set to be heard that date, but a decision on the Google case is pending. Basically, according to Norm Zada, the founder of Perfect 10, “Perfect 10 objects to having displayed in search results thumbnails of its models’ pictures, along with the links to third-party sites where larger photos are available.”
“(Google and Amazon.com) are giving away exactly what we are selling,” Zada said. “There is no business that can survive if someone comes along and gives away their product.” Zada also feels that Google and Amazon are illegally profiting on Perfect 10 images by serving search and contextual based advertising along with those images on search results pages.
