Google Maps Adds Free Merchant Coupons
Google Maps has added a new way for local merchants to attract more customers to their storefronts and track those customer sales via a new breath taking step in local search technology; coupons. Ok, forgive the sarcasm as from a merchant standpoint, the simplicity of Google Maps Coupons just my work to draw in extra local search using customers, while also bringing more attention to a brick & mortar’s Google Maps listing than those other storefronts not issuing Goupons.
The brilliance behind the Google Maps Coupons system is part of the Google Local Business Center which allows merchants to list and serve ‘ads’ for their businesses via Google Maps and its accompanying search results. Best of all, these services from Google are free.
Sure, the service may be stepping back in time a bit, or adapting a little of the ReachLocal or Superpages.com business model, but ‘Printable Coupons’ is an easy pitch to attract small businesses into the Google Maps system; which could result in expanded campaigns down the road.
In order to secure a local listing, merchants visit the Local Business Center, input their address and business info, then Google sends a postcard to that address as confirmation.
Google has also found a partner in their Local Maps Couponing efforts in Valpak:
Google has partnered with Valpak, one of the leading direct marketing companies in North America, to provide coupons from current Valpak advertisers on Google Maps. These coupons include savings from local businesses throughout the United States including dry cleaners, dentists, vets, pizza places, car washes, oil changes, handymen and home remodelers. New coupons from Valpak advertisers are added on a nightly basis to ensure the most recent offers are available immediately to consumers.
Which has Todd Leiser, VP & GM for Valpak.com excited : “We’re very pleased to be the launch partner with Google to offer Valpak’s print-at-home online coupons to more consumers and to give Valpak merchants valuable enhanced distribution tied to their existing listing on Google Maps.” said Leiser.
Google also adds that soon AdWords Advertisers will be able to drive traffic to their coupons on Google Maps : By driving additional traffic to their coupons the advertiser can reach more customers.
