Google Image Search Now Allows People to “Save” Images to Desktop

Google Image Search Now Allows People to “Save” Images to Desktop

Google is expanding on a mobile search feature rolled out in late 2015, whereby searchers could star images they find in image search directly to their mobile devices. The expansion of this feature will see Google allow desktop searchers to star images they find in image search results in a similar way.

Google is taking some liberties in its announcement with the with the use of the word “save”. For instance, the headline reads: “Easily save the images you love…now on desktop”. A more accurate choice of wording would be anything along the lines of “favorite”, “bookmark”, or “star”; because essentially that is what Google is allowing people to do.

You’re not really saving anything, you’re bookmarking it for easy access at a later time. What you’re saving is the information about where that image is located on the web. In addition, you can also organize your starred images with tags. Mind you, this is still a neat feature, but the use of the word “save” is a bit of a stretch here.

What’s even more curious is the fact that when Google announced this feature first for mobile it was never once referred to as “saving” images. The company completely changed its wording for this announcement, despite it being the exact same feature on a different platform.

If you want to save an image to your desktop computer in the true sense of the word, that feature has been a part of operating systems for as long as I can remember using computers. However, if you’re intrigued by the idea of putting stars next to images (which you could have otherwise saved to your computer), the feature is available today in the US.
