Gmail Now Offers Users the Ability to Turn Off Conversation View

Gmail users who are NOT a fan of the conversation view in their emails have the option to turn it off. Google’s Wiltse Carpenter (technical lead) took to the Gmail Blog to explain that, even though he is a fan of the feature, not everyone is. Mr. Carpenter likens conversation view to cilantro, stating “you either love it – and, like me, enjoy the nice citrusy, herbal finish it gives to everything from salsa to curry – or you hate it.”

I am not sure how many people would compare an email feature to an herb, but it is nice to know that we know now have the option to turn off the setting. Users that want to opt out of conversation view need only go to the main settings page, find the “Conversation View” setting and turn it off. If you ever feel remorse about you decision, the process is easily reversed.

Are you a fan of conversation view or will you be turning it off?

Speak your mind!

  1. This is so disappointing. Conversation view is one of the best features of Gmail. It takes a period of adjustment but ultimately is a much better way to manage email. The real problem is as new users come to Gmail, turn off conversation view and never know how much better it will make their email. I think Google sold out their product a bit here.

  2. Why write the post and not link back to the source, or a link to how to turn the feature off? .As fate would have it, Mr Softee's hotmail just converted to “mandatory” conversation view. lol
