Do you like comparing your progress with your competitors? By doing that you can evaluate how fast you are moving or how much you need to do. Below I am listing just a few tips on what and how you can compare.

Compare social media presence:

BizShark graphs your website social media popularity compared to any of your competitors. You can select the competitors from the list or add a competitor site yourself:

You will be able to see and compare your and your competitors’ presence across Digg, StumbleUpon, Delicious, Yahoo answers, Reddit, Twitter. Besides, the tool also graphs Technorati and Google Blog Search reactions.

Compare traffic:

Alexa.com, Compete.com and Google Trends for websites allow free tools to compare website traffic with up to 4 other sites.

Apart from visitor numbers, they enable you to customize the timeframe and get some insight into the visitors’ behavior: Compete compares people’s “attention” (the time spent on site compared to overall time spent in the Internet by US people) and user’s average stay (average time spent on site by one person – in minutes); while Google trends allow to restrict stats to a particular territory.

  • backlinks to the domain in Yahoo;
