Rand Fishkin : Most Giving Search Blogger

This year, instead of giving out the award for ‘Best Search Blogger’ I thought it may be more appropriate to define part of what being the best is.

  • Is someone the best at something because of their ongoing coverage?
  • Is someone the best at something because of their research?
  • Is someone the best at something because of their influence?
  • Is someone the best at something because of what they give?

SEJBlogAwards2007 Rand Fishkin : Most Giving Search BloggerThis year, I thought it a good change in the award routine to change the word ‘Best’ with ‘Most Giving’ to give honor to the top search blogger who is most giving to the search industry by the sharing and openness of information, coverage of changes in search and events, and taking the time out of a busy daily routine of managing a media group, search agency, consulting service or arbitrage empire to actually help others and spread the wealth.

And the voters, you the reader, decided that the Most Giving Search Blogger of 2007 is …. Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz.

Congrats Rand, I guess the Whiteboard Fridays, Sunday night blog posting, Mini-moz Conference and all of the little things you’ve done in 2007, especially the SEOmoz community have paid off.

Here is the very close voting tally:

  1. Pretty much exactly as expected. Rand and Aaron well done.

I’ve also been reading Tamar of late – one to watch.

Andy Beal too – another book for me to glance at on the way or will this be a keeper ;)

  2. Doesn’t seem fair, Rand and Danny are excellent sources, very top of the line, but if it wasn’t for Barry, there’s no way we would be informed as we are now. Guess it’s sour grapes from someone who didn’t get a chance to vote.

  3. @David Saunders – just my ill timed sour grapes. All of these bloggers are very giving in their efforts, and everyone deserves some recognition. Got a soft spot for Barry because of his tireless work.

  4. Yeah, it’s hard to pinpoint only one blogger as being the MOST of anything. In my opinion, everyone on this list deserves recognition.

Anyone up for an SEO blogger dinner at SMXWest or SES NY?

  5. I’d love to be at a dinner at SMX, although I may need to be the server to this all star lineup. :)

  6. Most giving? Really?

I can’t vote for any of those as “most giving” according to the definition of many people I know. People not on that very short list are bigger “givers” than people on the list.

Congrats to Rand; but I respectfully disagree.

    Maybe it should have been reworded to ask;

“Who is followed the most by the SEO INDUSTRY only?”

If a firm only wants to be followed by SEO types, then that is the list for you. I know of “many” SEO and SEM firms who don’t give a crap if other SEO firms follow them as that is NOT how they give to the industry. SEO’s giving to other SEO’s should have been in this type of list and criteria. You have to realize that there are thousands of firms who give in many, many ways.

    Giving to who?
