Google Releases Official Google Publisher Plugin For WordPress

Announced this morning on their Webmaster Central blog, Google has released an official Google Publisher Plugin for WordPress. While still in the beta stage, this new plugin offers an easier way for WordPress site owners to integrate Google products within their sites.

The key benefit of this plugin is the ability to access Google services without having to leave the WordPress platform. Google asks us to keep in mind that this is a beta release, which means they’re still fine tuning it for the many versions of WordPress websites out there.

At this time, the Google Publisher Plugin supports two Google products, with hopefully more to be added in the future. The plugin offers:

  • Google AdSense Support: Earn money by placing ads on your website. The plugin links your WordPress site to your AdSense account and makes it easier to place ads on your site — without needing to manually modify any HTML code.
  • Google Webmaster Tools Support: Webmaster Tools provides you with detailed reports about your pages’ visibility on Google. The plugin allows you to verify your site on Webmaster Tools with just one click.

The Google Publisher Plugin can be downloaded from the WordPress.org plugin directory. Google has also provided a page in their Help Center for those who need some assistance getting started with the plugin.

It will be interesting to see how this plugin evolves, I sure wish it was available when I was getting started with WordPress. It will no doubt prove to be a valuable tool for site owners.

  1. Damn you Google! :)

It’s just days ahead of our product beta launch – AdPushup.com – which lets you optimize your Adsense earnings. Our MVP is focused on WordPress, and one of the components is the Visual Editor through which multiple ads (locations, designs, size etc.) can be placed on the WordPress website. I feel our editor is more flexible in terms of ad placement and settings, but this news is definitely a threat, or a validation in disguise.

Note to team: launch the beta even faster!

  2. I’m always left wondering whether Google gives you extra marks for playing along with it?
When it craws your site and sees Google Adsense, webmaster tools, analytics, authorship and so on, does it go
“Ah, this guy loves us, he’s a Google fan, lets give him a push up the search engine rankings”
    What do you think?

  3. Great. I have installed this plugin but it seems it does not offer any other benefits other than making it easy to access the website details.

  4. Cool, but would love to see some more features. WMT verification? SEO Ultimate has had this for what, 5 years now?

How about adding a feature we can actually use, like a working version of Google+ comments.

    1. Google+ comments add-on would be great. I’ve (stupidly) only just started using G+ and I’m enjoying it. I’d love to be able to merge everything together.

  5. That’s why we love WordPress. Everything is becoming automated for WordPress sites. Now, this plugin is surely a work reducer for site owners, easy site verification and management, so cool.

  6. I’ve just checked it on WordPress plugin directory but it seems not much people using it. Maybe it’s just a beta or people dont want google tracking them with this plugin?

  7. Dear Matt Southern,

Just i have checked this plugin and used for my site. Amazing work. Before this tool, most of the wordpress users and blogger users are spending more time to integrate adsense code in their sites. Definitely this plugin reduces bloggers work. Just with in seconds i have integrated adsense code with this plugin. Effective and Responsive. Webmaster tool verification is also so easy.

    Thanks to Google team.
