Digg Launches New Digg Search Engine

Today Digg released a new version of their internal Digg search functionality which according to social media guru Brent Csutoras is “is a real improvement.”

The new Digg Search lets users filter search results based upon the number of Diggs, buried stories, upcoming stories and other advanced search options (notice that Google AdWords, not Digg advertising partner Microsoft, is serving the sponsored search results).

  • Add +np show only not promoted stories
  • Add +u show only upcoming stories
  • Put terms in “quotes” for an exact search
  • Add -term to exclude a term from your query (e.g. apple -iphone)

  1. I love the new search to be honest. Before it was iffy that you would even get the results you wanted and you were pretty limited in the way you could digg into the results.. heh.

Now you can sort by category and url to get exactly what your looking for.

    Great improvement.

  2. Some time ago twitter launched its search engine and now Digg. Seems to me that Google traffic will divert to these two as well.

May be the effect will be negligible but even a small hole is dangerous.

  3. I’m shocked. This will give their detractors quite a bit of ammo with that +b option. I tried a search that they have been accused of suppressing and it wasn’t pretty.

Whether they do or don’t, I haven’t a clue, but it did not look good.
