US local digital ad spend in slated to increase from $25.7B in 2013 to $41.1B in 2017 – which is a 12 percent CAGR increase according to BIA/Kelsey. Local spending today represents over 60 percent of total digital ad spending! With the growing interest in local, one of the best ways to keep up with the trends are via industry leading local conferences. Here are a list of must attend local advertising and marketing conferences in the US.
1. Local Online Advertising Conference
The Local Online Advertising Conference or LOAC2014 conference is organized by Borrell Associates – a research firm specializing in the local and digital space. It focuses on a lot of specialized content as it relates to local – both national and SMB trends.

Sessions to Attend: Nielsen Corp’s data on the local purchase funnel and benchmarks on local digital media by Borrell
Session of Interest: National brands working on local adverting by Luke Edison from YP.

2. Local U Advanced
One-day session that focuses on local search tactics from synergizing efforts between local and social and local competitive research to Google’s new patents impacting local search.
Date: 7-8th March 2014
Venue: DoubleTree by Hilton, King of Prussia, PA
Sessions to Attend: Keynote by Derek Wetzel from Google on Google+ products and latest releases. Local competitive research by David Mihm from Moz.
3. Local Search Association Conference (LSA 14)
The Local Search Association Conference is organized by the Local Search Association (as the name suggests!), which is a large trade organization of companies focused on print, digital, mobile, and social working within the local space. The event headliner will be Steve Wozniak, the Silicon Valley icon and Apple co-founder. Steve will be in a discussion on the founding of Apple, the intersection of future technologies, the role of entrepreneurs within large companies, and ways to nurture creativity and innovation within organizations.
Date: 27-29th April, 2014
Venue: Hyatt Regency, Huntington Beach, CA
Sessions to Attend: Ginny Sandhu, Bing Ads’ senior product manager of Mobile & Local Advertising, will talk about ways to lower the barriers for small businesses to generate visibility online.
For attendees wanting to learn more about trends, I’d recommend Gian Fulgoni’s (Executive Chairman and Co-Founder, comScore) keynote session. Gian will provide the latest statistics showing how consumers are conducting local search today, with a particular focus on the use of mobile devices and the implications for marketers and publishers.
Sessions of Interest: Paran Johar (Mobile media summit) session on cross-screen campaigns, how cross-screen campaigns are currently being deployed, and the challenges and opportunities associated with these campaigns.

4. LEADING IN LOCAL – The National Impact
Leading in Local is a series of conferences organized by industry experts BIA/Kelsey that focus on several segments of local. This one’s your local advertising powerhouse of information.
From industry local advertising trends, understanding the franchisees and multi-location marketing trends to big data and loyalty programs. This conference focuses more on national brands and multi-location brick and mortar advertisers opportunities and strategies that define their ad spend.
Date: 7-9th May, 2014
Venue: Sheraton Atlanta, Atlanta, GA
Sessions to Attend: The impact of GEO targeting on Brands (speakers to be announced) and Understanding the local advertising platform providers.
Keynotes are yet to be announced but going by last year’s keynote speakers – you wouldn’t be disappointed!

5. LEADING IN LOCAL – SMB Digital Marketing
The SMB digital marketing conference is focused on local strategies and solutions across the mobile and social space. This one’s perfect if you’re an SMB looking to dive straight in the digital marketing landscape. Year 2014 speakers and agenda are yet to be announced but last year they had Matt Baker – Facebook head of SMB and Surojit Chatterjee, Head of Google global mobile search ads take on the stage. Stay tuned for this one!

6. LEADING IN LOCAL – Interactive Local Media
With over 25 sessions spread across three days, Interactive local media is a great start-up for digital marketers looking to broaden their understanding on what works and what doesn’t. This conference does a phenomenal job in covering topics around location data, targeted geo mapping and fencing.
Date: 3-5th December 2014
Venue: San Francisco, CA (Venue yet to be decided)
